Vala’s Autumn Feature Sale 2020 successfully held.

Initially scheduled to be held  on 23 April 2020, the Vala Holsteins Autumn Feature Sale was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and eventually held successfully on Thursday 28 May 2020. This posed many new challenges for the Vala team, the auctioneers DLS and, of course, our buyers given the unique circumstances of the various social distancing measures and other pandemic-control measures in place. The Sale proceeded with a combination of an on-site auction (with suitable social distancing precautions) plus an on-line auction platform. The Vala Holsteins team would like to thank all who participated to make this happen – and a special thanks to our buyers, in particular, those who were confident to make purchases remotely on-line. Without you the Sale would not have been so successful – many thanks to all of you.

The Autumn Feature Sale achieved an average of $3,195/head – which is about 20% higher than the prices achieved at Vala’s Spring Feature Sale in October 2019. Top price of $8,000 went to Lot 1 Vala Bandares Sheena, an A2A2 heifer from the Wesswood-HC Rudy Missy family and full sister to SHAYDON #2 gBPI bull standing in Australia. Also selling for $8,000 was Lot 46 Vala Polar Ladyluck-P, an A2A2 polled heifer from the Comestar Laurie Sheik family. The Sale showcased Vala’s breeding philosophy which focuses heavily on traits such as A2A2, polled, high-production, high-type and good functional traits. The catalogue for the Sale (available here) amply testifies to the rich blend of livestock being presented by Vala Holsteins to dairyfarmers in Australia and beyond.

DLS did a great job at the Sale and Brian Leslie provided this video summary that is available on the Vala Facebook page.

We thank all the buyers for making their purchases and we trust that they have every success whether in milking their Vala livestock, breeding from them or showing them in the ring. For those that were unable to participate or were unsuccessful in making purchases please be reminded that Vala Holstein always prices its livestock and is always open for private sales via its website at valaholsteins.com – check in from time to time to see what we have available.

Looking forward to seeing you again at the Vala Spring Feature Show 2020 which is intended to be held later this year.
